Bugs: WebBrowser control: Run-Time error '438'

Author(s)
Terry Kreft

You may get this error message when trying to use the WebBrowser control in Access.

There is no object in this control:
Run-Time error '438'
Object doesn't support this property or method"

The web browser control from IE4 exhibits this behavior. Follow the steps below to cure the problem.

  1. Place your Webbrowser control on the form
  2. Size it.
  3. Cut it to the Clipboard (Ctrl-X)
  4. Paste it from the Clipboard (Ctrl-C)
  5. Position the control.

It will now work (strange but true). If you need to resize the control at any time you'll have to delete the existing one and carry out the steps above again.
