Bugs: Access 97 fails to start after Access 2000 Uninstall

Author(s)
Dev Ashish

Access 2000 and Access 97 share a lot of registry keys amongst themselves.   Microsoft Installer (MSI) seems to remove the license key in the registry that Access 97 needs during an uninstallation.

For more information on the "No license" error message, refer to this Knowledge Base article.

To fix this problem, you will need to rerun the Office 97 install as

Setup /y

Where the flag is defined as

Prevents Setup from copying files. Setup proceeds  normally, including setting registry entries, but does not copy any files. Use this switch for restoring registry entry values or for tracking down process problems without copying files.

You may use this switch when running Microsoft Office 97 Setup in maintenance mode. Running Setup after a previous setup of Microsoft Office starts Setup in maintenance mode.

For more information on Office 97 Setup switches, refer to this Knowledge Base article.
